Lalibela is most famous for its Rock hewn churches. The churches built in the 12th century and the Town is located 330kms far from Bahir Dar and 700kms from Addis Ababa. These Rock hewn churches also called “the Eighth wonders of the world”. The rock-hewn churches of Lalibela registered by UNESCO as world heritage site in 1978 G.C.

Itinerary
A journey to Lalibela starts early in the morning after taking breakfast by traveling to Awra Amba, a unique cooperative community location built by Mr. Zumra Nuru in 1970 G.C. The community is known for hard work and Equality.
Checheho Medihanitalem is another stopover located 195 km far from Bahir Dar Town. The monastery is built in the 5th century AD.
Nakutoleab is a monastery located 7 km southeast of the Town. It is a monastery inside a natural cave. This is the last site to be visited on the way to Lalibela. Overnight in Lalibela Town.
The first group of rock-hewn churches that would be visited before lunch includes Bete Medhanialem, Bete Mariam, Bete Meskel, BeteDenagl, and Bete Gologota Michal. Bete Medhanialem is the largest monolithic Rock hewn church in the world.
Bete Gebral, Bete Merquros, Bete-Emanuel, Betelehiam, Bete Aba Libanos, and Bete Ghiorgis are the second group of rock-hewn churches that would be visited in the afternoon. Bete Giyorgis, the last church built by King Lalibela and the third group of the rock-hewn churches is visited in the afternoon. Stayover In Lalibela.
After taking breakfast a journey to Asheten Mariyam church will be started. It is 8kms far from the town and a person can use a car or mule to travel to the church. Trekking is also possible to reach Asheten Mariyam.
Yimrhane Kristos and Bilbala Giyorgis are the churches to be visited in the afternoon.
